Why Addressing Health Disparities Among Black Women Matters
Black women face significant, persistent health disparities—particularly in cardiometabolic conditions—due to a complex mix of chronic stress, trauma, cultural influences, and social determinants.
The PAIRADIME Lab is dedicated to advancing health equity by centering Black women’s lived experiences. We use biopsychosocial and cultural research approaches to uncover how psychological, social, cultural and contextual factors intersect and impact health and health behavior outcomes. We also examine how these factors cross over into protective factors like sport participation and sport psychology, elite performance in stressful spaces (Black physicians and elite performers), and parenthood.
By exploring the unique challenges and strengths present within Black communities, we hope to contribute meaningful research to science that not only addresses root causes, but promotes joy, hope, and resilience. We aim to change the existing PAIRADIMEs of Black women’s health to promote meaningful reduction in health disparities for future generations of Black families.
